Microblading

What exactly is Microblading?

Microblading is a relatively new manual tattoo method for enhancing eyebrows where fullness would like to be achieved. It is also known for filling in areas that are sparse or completely bare. It is considered to be semi permanent makeup, as compared to the traditional hair stroke technique done by machine, because it typically will disappear in 1-2 years. Microblading is performed by using a handheld disposable tool consisting of a series of tattoo needles formed to look like a blade. By using light pressure on the skin pigment is implanted into the epidermis as the needles glide along the skin. Because the color is closer to the surface, the strokes appear crisp and very fine.

How long does the treatment take?

Usually Microblading is done in two sessions. The first takes two to three hours. In the first session, the brow is shaped and styled to the client’s preference, and then pigment is applied. Four to six weeks later the client returns for the Perfection Session. This can take up to two hours depending on retention. During this session the brows are perfected and any areas in which the skin rejects the pigment are filled in. Many clients do not need a Perfection Session if they are satisfied with their healed results 30 days later.

How long does Microblading last?

Generally Microblading lasts one to two years, depending on skin type…normal, oily, or dry and age…young or mature. It is not permanent like a body art tattoo, because the pigments are not implanted so deeply into the skin. Skincare also affects the duration of the pigments. The more you exfoliate the skin and remove dead skin cells the sooner the pigment will shed from the skin hence needing a touch up sooner. Sun worshippers will need fill-in appointments sooner to maintain their brows.

How long does microblading take to heal?

It takes about seven days for the outside of the skin to heal. It will take another 21 days for the inside to heal. Most clients will be pink around the brows, much like they were just waxed, but that irritated tone will disappear within 4 hours. The majority of clients will be able to conduct their daily routine without anyone ever knowing they just had microblading!

Why is it necessary to do a touch up?

A touch up is not always necessary because everyone heals differently and therefore the outcomes vary. Sometimes it is necessary to adjust the color and brow thickness by adding more strokes. In the touch up session, the final adjustments are made to assure the client’s satisfaction. We call this the Perfection Session !

Can the touch up be done in less than four weeks?

This is not recommended because the healing needs to be completed before the final results are seen. Final adjustments should only be done after the initial work has been completed four weeks later.

Is Microblading painful?

The level of discomfort is relatively minor. Some compare it to tweezing 2 to 3 hairs at the same time. Usually a topical anesthetic is used to numb the area before or after the first strokes have been placed. We assess each client and their pain tolerance and decide what is best for the client.

Our clients’ comfort is of utmost importance to us. Topical anesthetics are safe and may contain lidocaine, tetracaine and epinephrine. Redness and slight swelling in the area is common after the procedure. Often clients compare the feeling to a slight sunburn.

Are there any after care instructions?

Your aftercare instructions will be verbally communicated to you as well as sent to you via email and text. Our Microblading Technicians are available for any questions you may have during the healing process via text or email.

Who should NOT have Microblading?

A thorough client consultation is conducted BEFORE any Microblading services can be scheduled. This gives the Technician an opportunity to get to know the client and assure they can meet the needs/wants of the client. We use this time to gather information about our patients medical history to assure there are no contraindications that could harm our clients.

What are some of the risks and complications with Microblading?

Proper procedures and precautions are used to ensure safe procedures. We only use disposable tools in a sanitized environment. When pre and post care instructions are followed the risk of complications are minimal if any. Read your client consultation waiver thoroughly as this document is used to ensure there are no contraindications with the procedure.

What if I don’t like the result?

Carefully choosing your Technician typically ensures a great result. However you should compare the work of various Technicians before choosing. Make sure they are properly educated and hold certifications from reputable companies. Discuss your expectations and desired outcome, including the shape, style, and color you wish with your Technician. Adjustments can always be done during your Perfection Session to make sure you LOVE your brows!
